Biography

Dr. O'Rourke leads the CONNECTing Quality Life (CONNECT-QoL) research program focusing on social connectedness and its impact on quality of life for individuals with dementia and their families. Her research emphasizes developing and evaluating complex interventions aimed at reducing loneliness and enhancing social connectedness. Current projects include the Music Connects program, which promotes social inclusion for people living with dementia in care homes, and a pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial on remote visiting for care home residents. Dr. O'Rourke has served in various teaching roles, mainly focusing on research statistics and nursing foundations at the undergraduate level, and has been involved in graduate supervision, particularly with complex intervention design aimed at fostering social connectedness among older adults. Her commitment to mentorship is evident in her willingness to supervise master's and doctoral students, with a specific focus on research that aligns with her program's aims.
