Hannah Rosa completed her MSci in Biomedical Sciences at Newcastle University in 2013 and continued her research with a PhD at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Mitochondrial Research. Her doctoral work focused on the pathogenesis of mitochondrial dysfunction in patients with mitochondrial disease. In April 2017, she joined King’s College London, working in Dr. Afshan Malik’s lab on a project addressing diabetic complications, specifically diabetic nephropathy. Her research interests include the impact of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors on islet beta-cell mass and function in vitro, accurate measurement of circulating mitochondrial DNA in human blood samples, and the effects of thyroid hormone on mitochondrial metabolism in human embryos. She has contributed to several peer-reviewed articles and chapters focused on mitochondrial DNA and its association with various metabolic diseases, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and diabetic retinopathy. Hannah is actively involved in public engagement and is committed to enhancing the visibility of women’s contributions to science.
