Dr. Hannah Simpson

Biography

Hannah Simpson is a Lecturer in the Department of Drama and Performance at the University of Edinburgh. She has a rich academic background, having completed her BA in English Literature and French at the University of Oxford, followed by an MA in English and American Literature from Boston University, and a PhD from the University of Oxford. Her research primarily focuses on modern and contemporary theatre in the UK, Ireland, and Europe, with particular emphasis on the representation of the human body on stage, especially concerning issues of disability, trauma, and sexuality. Simpson's work includes notable interests in the plays of Samuel Beckett, exploring themes of physical pain and the complexities of communication in theatre. She has been involved in various editorial and project activities, including co-editing a book series on Theatre and Disability and writing a monograph that examines Beckett's disability performance. Additionally, she has contributed to numerous publications addressing the intersections of theatre, literature, and contemporary social issues.
