Hannah Thomas is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Healthy Skin ARF Prevention team and an Adjunct Research Fellow at the UWA Centre for Child Health Research. She holds a PhD focusing on wound healing mechanisms and a Master of Science Communication and Outreach. Her research primarily partners with children and families to support healthy skin, particularly for Australian Aboriginal children who face the highest rates of skin infections globally, leading to severe health consequences like sepsis and rheumatic heart disease. Hannah was a part of the Kids Research Institute Australia DETECT Schools Study, which aimed to assess asymptomatic transmission and the psychological impact of COVID-19 across 79 schools in Western Australia. In 2021, she joined the Healthy Skin team, where she coordinated the scientific direction of the SToP Trial, a project that successfully reduced the burden of skin sores caused by Strep infections among school-aged children in the Kimberley region, WA. Funded as a BrightSpark Fellow, Hannah works with families and communities to implement necessary initiatives that promote healthy skin and improve overall life opportunities.
