Biography

Hannah is a feminist sociologist with a focus on gender, youth, and education, particularly of the lived experiences and identities of young women and girls. She holds an MRes in Equality and Human Rights from the University of Glasgow and completed her PhD on the educational social experiences of working-class young women and girls engaged in vocational beauty education. Her work employs participatory creative methods underpinned by feminist research principles. Before joining King’s College London, she worked at the University of Kent and University College London on projects that explored intersecting gender and class inequalities. Hannah is a co-founder and co-convenor of the British Sociology Association’s Social Class Study Group, and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Critical Education Policy Studies. She is also the founder and convenor of the UK Girl Studies Network, and a member of both the British Educational Research Association (BERA) and the British Sociological Association (BSA). Her key research interests include sociology of youth, education, girls and girlhood, class-gender intersections, feminist theory, feminist activism, and feminist participatory creative research methods.
