Hannah Wei Wu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at Brown University. With over 20 years of research experience, she has led both population-based and laboratory-based studies on schistosomiasis, establishing long-term collaborative relationships with colleagues in endemic areas in China and the Philippines. Her research interests focus on immuno-epidemiologic investigations related to human resistance to Schistosoma japonicum and the mechanisms and patterns of schistosomiasis-associated morbidity, which are critical for vaccine development. Dr. Wu has worked as a co-investigator in NIH-funded trials for vaccine candidates using water buffalo, conducting studies at the Shanghai Veterinary Research Institute. She has also supervised clinical trials examining the optimization of assays to measure human cytokine levels during pregnancy. Currently, she is involved as a subcontract principal investigator on a One Health grant, working with the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine in the Philippines to evaluate the safety and efficacy of vaccine candidates for Filipino carabaos. Her extensive academic background includes a PhD from Brown University and postdoctoral research at the University of California at Berkeley in molecular cell biology.
