Dr. Hanneke Kip

Biography

Hanneke Kip works as an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Health Technology at the University of Twente. She is also a researcher at Transfore, an organization focused on forensic mental healthcare. Her work is research-driven, aiming to improve mental healthcare for vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations, particularly forensic psychiatric patients. Kip investigates various types of technology, including interactive virtual reality, mobile apps, wearables, and web-based interventions, to create unique treatments for underserved patient groups. Her PhD project, completed in 2021 with distinction, concentrated on the participatory development, implementation, and evaluation of technology designed to identify and treat risk factors in forensic mental healthcare. The thesis revealed that the implemented technologies have the potential to drastically enhance mental healthcare by shifting the focus from traditional talking therapies to practical experiences in realistic contexts. Currently, she further explores the implications of her conclusions through innovative and feasible research methods.
