Biography

Hanneke Takkenberg is a Professor of Management Education with a focus on Women in Business at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam. She is the co-executive director of the Erasmus Centre for Women and Organisations (ECWO), where she leads research initiatives pertaining to the empowerment of women in business. With decades of research excellence, she has made significant contributions to understanding clinical decision-making in cardio-thoracic interventions and gender differences in healthcare. Takkenberg has a keen interest in network analysis, particularly in women's organisations and personal networks. She is involved in the European Commission-funded Horizon2020 EQUAL4EUROPE project, which aims to develop and implement Gender Equality Plans for European universities. Takkenberg facilitates Executive Education's women in business programmes and also contributes to efforts aimed at achieving gender-balanced leadership through ECWO’s Open Masterclasses. A recipient of various awards, including the 2018 Els Borst Award, she also won the 2019 Caty Asscher Award for her efforts in promoting gender diversity. Takkenberg founded VENA, a network for women in academia, and was the Chief Diversity Officer at Erasmus University Medical Center. She holds an MD from Vrije University Amsterdam, an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from NIHES, and a PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
