Biography

Hannes Federrath studied computer science and earned his Ph.D. degree from Dresden University of Technology in 1998. He worked with the research group on Information Coding Theory at Dresden University of Technology from 1994 to 1999. From September 1999 to August 2000, he was a guest researcher at the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley. He served as a guest professor from September 2000 to August 2001 and in March 2003 became the head of the working group on IT-Security at Freie University Berlin, in the Department of Computer Science. From 2003 to 2011, he was a full professor (C4) of Information Security Management at the University of Regensburg. Since April 2011, he has been leading the working group on Security Distributed Systems at the University of Hamburg's Department of Computer Science. He served as the president of the German Informatics Society from 2018 to 2021 and was the chair of the Special Interest Group on Security, Protection, and Reliability from 2011 to 2016.
