Biography

Hans-Joachim Anders qualified as an MD at the University of Würzburg in 1995, where he performed his doctoral thesis in experimental cardiology. He began his clinical training as an internist at LMU Munich, specializing in nephrology under Professor Detlef Schlöndorff. His further clinical training included rheumatology and scientific training in immunology. Currently, he heads the renal division at the Inner City Campus of LMU Klinikum, which is associated with various research laboratories. He has lectured widely around the world on clinical nephrology and has received the Outstanding Basic Science Contributions in Nephrology award from the European Renal Association. His research focuses on the mechanisms of kidney necroinflammation, especially in acute kidney injury, and the kidney remodeling in chronic kidney disease. He is actively involved in identifying and validating potential treatment targets through preclinical drug testing. He has successfully supervised 51 PhD and MD students, with numerous postdoctoral researchers from Japan, Brazil, France, and beyond.
