Biography

Hans Bernhoff received his doctoral degree in material physics and surface science from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Sweden, in 1992. Following this, he was a postdoctoral researcher at IBM Research Division in Zurich, Switzerland, before joining ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, Sweden, as a project leader. In 2001, he became an associate professor in the Division of Electricity at Uppsala University and was appointed professor in 2011. Bernhoff has served as a board member for the Swedish Society for Vacuum Science and the FRAM-consortium. He has received multiple awards, such as Inventor of the Year from ABB Corporate Research and the Environmental Fund Scholarship from Sveriges Ingenjörer. His research primarily focuses on wave power, particularly direct drive point absorber technologies, and pulsed power research, achieving significant demonstrations in these fields. He has extensively analyzed vertical axis wind turbines, exploring their advantages over conventional systems, and has developed various prototypes for commercial application, contributing to advancements in renewable energy technologies.
