Dr. Hans Fidom

Biography

Hans Fidom is a Full Professor and the leader of the Orgelpark Research Program at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he holds the Chair in Organ Studies. Since 2010, he has focused on the transition of the organ from a church-based instrument to one suitable for secular contexts, particularly through the development of hyperorgans that integrate advanced sound concepts with digital technologies. Fidom's research interests span multiple fields, including Sound Studies, Heritage Studies, Musicology, Organology, and Art Studies, contributing to a deeper understanding of historical sound heritage and the philosophical aspects of music. He has also played a significant role in organizing the International Orgelpark Symposium and has been actively involved in various educational programs, including lectures and workshops that promote listening and philosophical thinking about music. Fidom's academic path includes a cum laude degree from the University of Groningen and a doctoral degree in socio-musicological aspects of the German organ scene from VU Amsterdam. His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous collaborations and leadership roles within national and international organ committees and competitions.
