Hans Hellendoorn studied computer science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence at TU Delft and received his PhD in fuzzy logic in 1990. In 1997, he worked with Siemens Research in Munich as the head of the research group on fuzzy control. Between 1997 and 2008, he was employed at Siemens Netherlands, where he led the training simulation department and later served as innovation manager. From 1999 to 2008 he was a part-time professor focusing on the industrial applications of computational intelligence, contributing to the Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering departments at TU Delft. In 2008, he transitioned to a full-time role as a professor in control theory and, in 2011, became the Director of Education for the Graduate School at the 3mE faculty, which serves 4,700 students and 300 PhD candidates. By April 2018, he assumed the role of chair of the Cognitive Robotics department. His research focuses on multi-agent control in large-scale hybrid systems. Hellendoorn is a co-author of four scientific books and has contributed over 200 scientific publications, in addition to organizing international workshops and conferences, and supervising numerous MSc and PhD students.
