Biography

Hans Kooistra is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals at Utrecht University. He completed his residency in internal medicine for companion animals from 1991 to 1994 and subsequently became an Assistant Professor (1994-2003), Associate Professor (2004-2018), and Professor (2018-present). His duties involve patient care and education, where he trains students, interns, and residents, with a particular focus on research in internal medicine related to companion animals and a special emphasis on endocrinology. Kooistra became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine-Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA) in 1997. He successfully defended his PhD thesis on the adenohypophyseal function in healthy dogs and dogs with pituitary disease in December 2000. Over his career, he has co-authored more than 180 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and is recognized as an EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. His faculty is a recognized training institute for veterinary specialization in Europe, providing high-quality patient care.
