Dr. Hans Thomsen

Biography

Hans B. Thomsen is a Professor of Private Law at the University of Zurich since February 2023. His research focuses on various aspects of East Asian art and culture, including a significant archival project examining East Asian objects in Swiss museums and private collections. This initiative seeks to closely study and document these individual artifacts, investigating their histories and the connections between Switzerland and East Asia. Prof. Thomsen has an extensive publication record, contributing to edited volumes and monographs that explore Japanese woodblock prints, reverse glass painting, and contemporary Japanese art. He co-edited books that delve into the intersections of cultural exchange between East Asia and the West, highlighting both historical and contemporary contexts.
