Biography

Hans van Bokhoven studies the role genes play in the nervous system and examines genetic and epigenetic networks that are disrupted in human brain disorders. His knowledge contributes to the development of new therapies. He is the head and full professor of the unit Molecular Neurogenetics and is an internationally renowned expert in elucidating genetic and epigenetic networks involved in human brain disorders such as intellectual disability, autism, and neuronal migration disorders. His research is highly multidisciplinary, utilizing state-of-the-art genome-wide analyses and a variety of animal models, including Drosophila and mouse, to gain insight into the molecular and cellular pathways that are disrupted in learning and memory. Since obtaining his PhD in 1993, Hans has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals, holding a current H-index of 70. He has received multiple highly competitive research grants and has been the (co)promotor for more than 30 PhD candidates, contributing to international collaborations and large EU-funded consortia, including EURO-MRX and GENCODYS, where he has held positions as coordinator.
