Biography

Hany Bastawrous is a Principal Educator in the Department of Microelectronics at TU Delft, starting in March 2024. He graduated with a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt. He was awarded the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering at Ritsumeikan University, Japan. During his career, Hany served in various academic capacities at Cairo University from 1998 to 2003. He was a research fellow at the Department of Applied Science for Electronics and Materials at Kyushu University, funded by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan, where his work focused on designing all-optical networks in collaboration with Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT) labs. He worked as a lecturer at the German University Cairo from 2010 to 2013, supervising research groups in optoelectronics and consumer electronics. He joined the Australian Institute of Innovative Materials at the University of Wollongong in 2013 as an Associate Research Fellow in the Electric Vehicles research group. Hany was involved in the design and implementation of a real-time reliable battery management system for electric vehicles, supported by AutoCRC and the Malaysian Automotive Institute. From 2014 to 2023, he worked at the Electrical Engineering Department of the British University in Egypt, where he co-founded the computer systems engineering program and directed it. Hany has authored or co-authored 50 papers in international journals and conferences and is a senior member of IEEE, as well as a founding member of IEEE’s Sensors Actuators Technical Committee.
