Biography

Associate Professor Hao-Wen Sim contributes expertise and leadership in neuro-oncology and upper gastrointestinal oncology biostatistics. He completed his medical degree with Honours from the University of Melbourne and was awarded the James Stewart Bequest for Surgery and inducted into the Margaret Whyte Honour Board. He subsequently completed a Master of Biostatistics from The University of Sydney, where he received the Biostatistics Collaboration Australia Star Graduate Award and the Judy Simpson Biostatistics Scholarship, as well as the Les Irwig General Epidemiology Award from the Australasian Epidemiological Association. After completing a neuro-oncology fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a graduate biostatistician of the Statistical Society of Australia. As a lead clinician, he treats patients with brain and upper gastrointestinal cancers at Kinghorn Cancer Centre, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney, Australia, and serves as Clinical Lead of the Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO) and Chair of the COGNO International Clinical Research Subcommittee. His research primarily focuses on the development and conduct of investigator-initiated brain cancer trials.
