Dr. Hao Wu

Biography

Hao Wu, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Genetics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on the epigenetic processes that regulate gene expression and establish diverse cell types in response to changing environmental signals and metabolic states. The Wu lab employs a combination of experimental methods, including biochemical, molecular, genetic, and genomic assays, along with bioinformatics approaches to study cell-type specification and maturation in mammalian stem cells. The long-term goal of the research is to quantitatively analyze and engineer cell-type specific epigenomes, aiming to inform therapeutic approaches for relevant human diseases. Key areas of his investigation include epigenomics, DNA methylation and demethylation, transcriptional control, and stem cell biology, particularly in relation to neural and cardiovascular development. Wu has made significant contributions to understanding how environmental factors influence epigenetic modifications that affect gene expression and development.
