Biography

Haobing Zhu is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Piano at Michigan State University College of Music. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Piano at Shanghai Normal University. Prior to his role at MSU, Zhu gained recognition as a notable concert pianist, having made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall in April 2012 after winning the MSU Collegiate Honors Competition. He graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and later earned a Master of Music degree in piano performance with honors from the New England Conservatory of Music. Additionally, he achieved the prestigious Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University under the guidance of Professor Deborah Moriarty. Zhu's performance accolades include being a prize winner at multiple competitions, such as the Shanghai Conservatory Mozart Concerto Competition and the Bradshaw Buono International Piano Competition. He has performed with ensembles like the Jiangsu Symphony Orchestra and has been featured in concert series including the Shanghai International Spring Music Festival and the Encore concert series in Italy. Zhu is committed to promoting Chinese traditional music within American culture and believes in the power of music to bridge cultural gaps and foster mutual understanding. His contributions to diversity and the arts have been recognized with the Michigan State University's All-University Diversity Award and an Individual Artist Grant from the Greater Lansing Arts Council.
