Biography

Haopeng Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at Stanford University. His research primarily focuses on mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics, utilizing machine learning to uncover mechanisms of metabolic regulation and protein function in relation to health and disease. His aim is to develop translational therapeutics that target aging, metabolic diseases, and cancer. His current research directions include developing mass spectrometry and machine learning approaches to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying metabolic rewiring in cancer and aging. He is designing activity-based proteome profiling strategies to guide the development of chemical leads targeting undrugged proteins, particularly those associated with drug resistance. Additionally, he combines mass spectrometry with genetic perturbations to mechanistically define protein functions on a large scale and is working on creating automation strategies for large-scale proteomics and metabolomics. Dr. Xiao is also focused on defining the role of Leucine-Rich Repeat-Containing Protein 58 (LRRC58) in physiology and disease, and is developing chemical leads aimed at targeting this protein for therapeutic benefit.
