Biography

Dr. HaoTian Harvey Shi is an Assistant Professor of advanced manufacturing in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Western University. Before joining Western, Dr. Shi was a post-doctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, U.K., where he developed multi-length-scale hierarchical fibre-based printing technologies for sensing and electronics applications. He earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto in 2014, followed by his M.A.Sc. in 2016 and Ph.D. in 2020 in Mechanical Engineering. His research interests are in designing sustainable functional materials for additive hierarchical manufacturing. Dr. Shi’s work is situated at the intersection between advanced manufacturing, nanoengineering, and material informatics, focusing on applications such as sensors and energy storage. He has received notable awards including the NSERC PGS-D doctoral award, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the NSERC PDF Fellowship.
