Dr. Harald Gall

Biography

Harald Gall is a Professor of Software Engineering in the Department of Informatics at the University of Zurich (UZH) and Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Informatics. He previously held the position of Associate Professor at the Technical University of Vienna in the Distributed Systems Group. He earned his PhD (Dr. techn.) and his master's degree (Dipl.-Ing.) in Informatics. His research focuses on software evolution, software architecture, software quality analysis, mining software repositories, and cloud-based software engineering. He is well-known for his pioneering work in mining software repositories which contributes to understanding software development processes and predicting quality attributes. Gall's notable research contributions have received several accolades, including the Influential Paper Award and the Test of Time Award. An active participant in the academic community, he serves as an associate editor for multiple journals, including the Journal of Empirical Software Engineering and IEEE Software. He has been involved in organizing flagship conferences in the field of software engineering, such as ICSE and ESEC/FSE, enhancing awareness of software maintenance and evolution evaluation in the academic sphere.
