Dr. Harald Gall

Biography

Harald Gall is a Professor of Software Engineering in the Department of Informatics at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics, and Informatics. He previously served as an Associate Professor at the Technical University of Vienna in the Distributed Systems Group. He holds a PhD in Informatics and a master's degree in the same field. His significant research contributions focus on software evolution, software architecture, and software quality analysis, with an emphasis on mining software repositories and cloud-based software engineering. Gall’s work since 1997 includes developing methods for mining repositories to enhance the understanding of software development and predict quality attributes. He has played a pivotal role in establishing the area of Mining Software Repositories, contributing to its recognition as a major research domain in software engineering. His research has been honored with several awards, including the Influential Paper Award and Test of Time Award. He has served as an Associate Editor for various reputable journals and is involved with several professional organizations such as ACM and IEEE. Gall's research aims to improve software development practices and productivity through insights derived from extensive software system data and developer interactions.
