Biography

Harmen Ghijsen investigates topics in epistemology, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science. He obtained his PhD from KU Leuven in 2014 and joined Radboud University in 2016, where he received an NWO Veni grant. His research focuses on the interaction between belief and perception, particularly how beliefs influence the way we perceive the world, emphasizing that research shouldn’t over-intellectualize cognition or overestimate the role of rational reasons. In addition to his research, Harmen serves as a teacher ambassador at the Radboud Teaching and Learning Centre, concentrating on creating transparent courses, adequate assessments, and enjoyable collaboration among teachers. He is involved with the Center for Cognition, Culture, and Language and has various research interests including conspiracy theories, rationality, perception, implicit bias, and belief.
