Biography

Harmesh Aojula is a Biological Chemist with 25 years of combined experience in academia and industry-focused small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He qualified with a PhD in Biological Chemistry from the University of Essex in 1988 and joined the Biosensors Group at the Centre for Applied Microbiology Research (CAMR) Porton, where he worked on pathogen analyte detection projects. He developed liposome amplified assays using new triggering mechanisms based on membrane-active peptides modified from natural sequences. In 1996, he moved to the University of Manchester as a drug delivery research fellow at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He transitioned to a teaching fellow role in 2004, specializing in Pharmaceutical analysis and the drug development process while innovating an e-learning platform for reliable formative and summative assessments. He became a Teaching and Research lecturer in 2010 and has led the development of the Year 2 Medicine unit. His research focuses on developing nanomedicines based on synthetic peptides and lipid-based formulations, with an emphasis on targeted therapeutic action.
