Biography

Harold Houba is an Associate Professor and Research Fellow at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, specifically within the Department of Economics. He obtained his PhD from Tilburg University in 1994. In 1992, Harold participated as an Exchange Visitor in the Economics Department at Harvard University. Harold has been affiliated with the Centre for World Food Studies at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam since 2001 and is actively involved in coordinating the School of Business and Economics Honours Programme. His broad research interests concentrate on economic applications of Game Theory, with significant methodological contributions to themes such as Bargaining Theory, Market Power, Economic Policy, and International Environmental Agreements, particularly focusing on cooperation and conflict in the Mekong River basin and other international rivers. Harold's teaching experience spans topics in Economic Theory, Auction Theory, and Behavioral Economics, among others, at both undergraduate and master's levels. He is known for inspiring students with his enthusiasm for the subjects. Harold currently teaches Bachelor courses in Econometrics and Operation Research, and master courses at the Tinbergen Institute. He has organized various academic events, including the 9th Tinbergen Institute Conference in 2014.
