Biography

Dr. Harriet Dinerstein is a Professor in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research interests primarily focus on planetary nebulae, the abundances in gaseous nebulae, and the applications of infrared, optical, and ultraviolet spectroscopy in understanding emission lines. Dr. Dinerstein's work extends to extragalactic H II regions, star formation, disk galaxies, and classical novae. Her research areas encompass various fields within astrological studies, including cosmology and stellar galactic astrophysics. Dinerstein is affiliated with the McDonald Observatory, contributing to both the academic and practical understanding of the interstellar medium. With a strong educational background, she earned her B.S. from Yale University in 1975 and later completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1980, further establishing her expertise in astronomy.
