Biography

Harrison Steel completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and a BSc in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Sydney. He then came to the University of Oxford as a Monash Scholar, completing his DPhil as a Monash Scholar. He has been a postdoctoral researcher in the Department's Control Group and joined as an Associate Professor in 2020. His research focuses on interdisciplinary challenges at the intersection of Synthetic Biology, Robotics, and Control Engineering. Harrison's group works on building synthetic biological feedback systems to create robust and safe biotechnologies for applications in agriculture and medicine. He develops experimental robotic platforms that are used in numerous academic and industrial laboratories worldwide to answer scientific questions and develop new biotechnologies. Furthermore, his theoretical work involves using mathematics to investigate and simulate challenging biological control systems.
