Biography

Harry McCarthy is an Assistant Professor of English at USC Dornsife. He grew up in Oxford, England, and attended the University of Exeter where he earned his BA in English and French. He later completed his MSt in English (1550-1700) at the University of Oxford. His doctoral dissertation, titled 'Boy Actors on the Early Modern English Stage: Performance, Physicality, and the Work of Play', was awarded the J. Leeds Barroll Dissertation Prize by the Shakespeare Association of America. His academic interests focus on Shakespeare, Early Modern Drama, Theater History, and Childhood Studies, as well as Critical Race Studies and Trans Studies. Prior to his current position, he served as a Lecturer in Early Modern English at the University of Exeter and was a Research Fellow at Jesus College, University of Cambridge. McCarthy's research includes publications on youth and performance, as well as contributions to major academic journals and books covering topics in Early Modern English literature and drama.
