Biography

Harry Spillane is a Bye-Fellow at Downing College and Special Supervisor at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. His current research focuses on the Munby Fellowship project entitled ‘Collecting Correcting: Histories of the English Bible and Bible Society Collections’. This project involves examining how Bibles were collected, edited, and shaped over the centuries, while also addressing the concept of 'perfect copies' in historical contexts. He has served as a Director of Studies for Part IB History and taught various modules on early modern British history, including the British Reformations and the material culture of the early modern world. Spillane completed his PhD in 2022 at Peterhouse under the supervision of Professor Alexandra Walsham and Mr. Scott Mandelbrote, focusing on the creation, production, and reception of the Bishops’ Bible. His doctoral research has contributed to an upcoming monograph and has been recognized with several awards, such as the Gordon Duff Prize from the Cambridge University Library. He actively participates in public lectures and has presented at various academic conferences across the UK.
