Biography

Harshavardhan (Harsh) Jatkar is a Senior Research Fellow in Circular Economy Energy Planning at University College London. He is an architect, development planner, and social scientist who integrates a wide range of disciplines into his research and development practice. His work spans development studies, environmental studies, postcolonial studies, and critical theory, with a thematic focus on land, energy, materials, and housing in relation to climate change, human health, and social justice. Harsh has extensive experience in research and teaching within urban development contexts across various international landscapes including India, Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, and Europe. He obtained his Doctorate in Development Planning from University College London, investigating postcolonial politics in participatory land policy in Western India. Throughout his career, he has contributed to numerous projects funded by the British Academy and the European Commission, focusing on energy poverty alleviation, equitable urban development, and resource efficiency in the building construction sector. Harsh is also a member of the UCL Energy Health Group and co-chairs the UCL Energy Development Group.
