Professor Hartmut Spliethoff focuses on the development and optimization of central and decentralized energy conversion systems for power plants. His research combines theory and experimentation, exploring ways to improve the efficiency and flexibility of thermal power plants, convert solid fossil fuels and biomass, and capture carbon dioxide for enhanced efficiency in low-temperature heat conversion. He studied mechanical engineering at the Universities of Kaiserslautern and Stuttgart, where he obtained his doctorate in 1992 and later achieved his lecturer qualification in 1999. Prior to his full professorship at the Technische Universität München, he was the Professor of Energy Technology at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands from 2004. In addition to his teaching, he serves as the Scientific Director of the Bavarian Center for Applied Energy Research (ZAE) and is a member of the advisory council of the Association of Large Power Plant Operators (VGB).
