Dr. Harvey Dale

Biography

Harvey P. Dale is a University Professor at New York University School of Law, where he directs the National Center for Philanthropy Law. With expertise in international tax law, he began his journey into philanthropy law by examining the legal issues affecting nonprofit organizations and subsequently established the National Center for Philanthropy Law at NYU. This center explores a wide range of legal issues affecting the nonprofit sector and serves as an academic forum for analyzing legal doctrines related to charitable activities. Dale has extensive teaching experience in international corporate tax law and acts as an expert adviser both nationally and internationally on nonprofit law issues, working with entities in countries such as Australia, China, Mexico, and the UK. He has published several works addressing tax exemption, international grantmaking, and unrelated business income tax. Additionally, he has served as an advisor to the Internal Revenue Service and was the founding president of Atlantic Philanthropies, holding the position until September 2001. Dale's contributions to the field have been recognized through his membership in the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and his honorary Doctor Laws degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2017.
