Biography

Hasan Uludag is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta since 1997. He also holds joint appointments in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Uludag directs interdisciplinary research programs in experimental therapeutics, focusing on designing functional biomaterials to realize new, unconventional therapeutic agents. His research activities include bone regeneration and anti-cancer therapies. He is an elected Fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUS-BSE) and serves as the lead editor for Frontiers in Biomaterials, also sitting on the editorial boards of six international journals. Dr. Uludag has published over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles. He obtained dual B.Sc. degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Biology from Brown University, specializing in biomedical engineering with a strong emphasis on biological sciences, and completed his Ph.D. in 1993 from the University of Toronto, developing expertise in polymeric biomaterials. He has experience in an industrial setting, contributing to the development of tissue-engineered bone-inducing devices for clinical use.
