Biography

Hasana Sharp earned her PhD from Pennsylvania State University in 2005 and completed a diploma as a foreign scientific fellow at the Ecole Normale Supérieure des Lettres et Sciences Humaines in 2004. Her research primarily focuses on political philosophy with a significant emphasis on Spinoza. In 2011, she published the book 'Spinoza Politics Renaturalization' through the University of Chicago, which explores the implications of Spinoza's denial of human exceptionalism in ethics and politics, considering arguments from feminist thought and critical philosophy of race and ecocriticism. Currently, she is engaged in a research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council that investigates the themes of servitude, bondage, and slavery, analyzing how these concepts interact with Spinoza's philosophical and political ideas. Professor Sharp teaches various courses in the history of political thought, early modern philosophy, feminism, philosophy of race, and environmental thought, with specific interests in the history of political philosophy from the 17th to the 19th centuries.
