Dr. Hassan Elbahtimy

Biography

Hassan Elbahtimy is a Senior Lecturer at King's College London in the Department of War Studies. His research focuses on international security and related topics such as global politics, nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, and the history of modern politics in the Middle East. He has written extensively for various academic journals, and his research has been recognized with awards such as the McElveny Grand Prize from the Nonproliferation Review. Elbahtimy is an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and has played a significant role in advancing nuclear verification technologies through his innovative research training projects with international partners. He co-edited the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Briefing Book, which serves as a vital resource for diplomats and academics involved in nuclear non-proliferation. Before joining King’s College London, he was a senior researcher at VERTIC, where he contributed to innovative initiatives for arms control and verification. He holds a PhD and MA in Science and Security from the War Studies Department, a Diplôme d'Université in International Nuclear Law from the University of Montpellier, and an M.B.B.Ch. from Cairo University. In 2006, he received a United Nations Disarmament Fellowship, showcasing his commitment to advancing global security.
