Professor Dr. Hayden Schaeffer

Biography

Hayden Schaeffer is a Professor of Mathematics and the Director of Applied Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He specializes in scientific machine learning, differential equations, randomization, and mathematical modeling. Schaeffer has received prestigious awards such as the NSF CAREER Award and the AFOSR Young Investigator Award. He has also served as an NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellow and as a von Karman Instructor at Caltech. He was an UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Irvine and has been recognized as an NDSEG Fellow and a Collegium University Teaching Fellow at UCLA. His research interests encompass various areas including Scientific Machine Learning, Operator Learning, Partial Differential Equations, Approximation Theory, Applied Harmonic Analysis, Applied Probability, Mathematical Modeling, Nonlinear Differential Equations, Inverse Problems, and Computational Applied Mathematics. In addition to his academic roles, he is involved in sharing his research through various seminars and workshops, focusing on advancing methodologies in applied mathematics.
