Biography

Hayeon Lee is an anthropologist and postdoctoral fellow at the Korea Institute, specializing in Vietnamese studies. With a PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, she has a background in social work and extensive research interests that include feminist ethnography, gender, transnational migration, mixed marriages, intersectionality, and Vietnam-South Korea relations. Her current work revolves around a book manuscript titled 'Korea Dreaming: Vietnamese Women’s Stories of Marriage Migration', which explores the narratives of marriage migrant women and their experiences within the cycles of migration from Vietnam to South Korea. Additionally, she is engaged in a project focusing on how Vietnamese marriage migrant women and their transnational families manage aging and care work. Her research also extends to South Korea's historical involvement in the Vietnam War and the influence of K-pop in Vietnam. As a postdoctoral research scholar at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University, Lee contributes to modern Vietnamese studies and actively supervises research students.
