Biography

Hayley Laughlin is a graduate research assistant in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, specializing in Indigenous health and rehabilitation. She began her journey toward becoming an occupational therapist at MacEwan University, where she obtained a diploma in the physical occupational therapy assistant program in 2017. With five years of experience as a therapy assistant, she has developed a strong passion for helping individuals in rehabilitation. In 2022, Hayley graduated with distinction from Thompson Rivers University with a bachelor's degree in health science. In 2023, she commenced her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of Alberta. As the inaugural Indigenous Liaison at her faculty, she works on supporting Indigenous students within rehabilitation medicine programs. Hayley is dedicated to connecting with the community and providing support in Indigenizing the occupational therapy curriculum. Being a proud Métis woman from High Prairie, Alberta, she possesses lived experiences that inform her understanding of the Indigenous community's challenges and healthcare needs. Hayley actively engages to build a strong rehabilitation network that integrates Indigenous ways of knowing and healing to better serve Indigenous peoples.
