Biography

Haylie Miller is an Assistant Professor in Movement Science and the Director of the Motor & Visual Development Laboratory at the University of Michigan's School of Kinesiology. Her research focuses on understanding the underlying mechanisms and functional impact of neurodivergent visuomotor integration, specifically the use of visual information in attention, planning, execution, and modification of movement. Dr. Miller has received substantial support from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, totaling $1.5 million. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2006 with a BA, double-majoring in Psychology and Music. She completed her graduate studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, earning her MS in 2008 and PhD in 2012 in Experimental Psychology. Her postdoctoral fellowships were concentrated on sensorimotor functioning and autism across several institutions, including the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. In 2023, she was recognized as an NSF Disability Rehabilitation Engineering Fellow and a NIH Diversifying Autism Research Workforce Fellow. Dr. Miller is a neurodivergent Cuban-American with a specific interest in how neurotype and cultural identity intersect to influence health equity. She is actively involved in community outreach and education, particularly within the Hispanic/Latina/o/e/x community in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She teaches several courses related to disability and movement and is a regular reviewer for scientific journals and grants in her field.
