Dr. Hazel Bateman

Biography

Hazel Bateman is a Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Business School, where she holds the position of Faculty Academic Chair in the School of Risk and Actuarial Studies. With extensive expertise in pension economics and behavioural finance, her current research focuses on the complexities of financial decision-making over the lifecycle, the architecture of financial advice, and the integration of financial literacy into retirement planning. Professor Bateman has consulted for various international organizations, including the World Bank and the OECD, helping shape policies related to financial services and superannuation. She has served on numerous advisory boards, including the NEST Scientific Council and the International Pension Research Association. Her notable grants include significant funding from the Australian Research Council to investigate retirement-income products and the behavioural responses of members to market volatility. Bateman's research interests lie primarily in pension economics, lifecycle financial decision-making, and the development of innovative retirement income solutions like reverse mortgages and aged care insurance. She has contributed extensively to the literature on retirement planning and has held various prominent roles within academic editorial boards, enhancing discourse in the field of economics and finance.
