Biography

Hazel Sive is a prominent researcher and educator in the field of biology, focusing on the fundamental mechanisms underlying vertebrate face and brain formation as well as the molecular underpinnings of neurodevelopmental disorders. She has significantly contributed to understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive vertebrate development, with particular emphasis on the Extreme Anterior Domain, which serves as a critical facial signaling center. Her research examines the brain's ventricular system and the novel cell shape changes involved in development. Additionally, Sive's work addresses critical neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disability, and epilepsy, aiming to define new therapeutics for these conditions. In June 2020, she transitioned from her role at MIT to become Dean of Science and Professor of Biology at Northeastern University, where she continues to accept postdoctoral fellows in her lab.
