Hazem M. Abbas (Senior Member, IEEE) received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in computer engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, and a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. He is currently a Continuing Adjunct Professor at the School of Computing at Queen’s University. Previously, he chaired the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at Ain Shams University and served as Dean of Media Engineering Technology at the German University in Cairo, Egypt. He has also worked at the Royal Military College in Kingston, IBM's Toronto Lab, and Mentor Graphics (now Siemens EDA). Prof. Abbas chaired the IEEE Signal Processing Chapter in Cairo and was involved with the Technical Committee of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR). His research focuses on developing theoretical foundations and fundamental results for modeling, analysis, and optimization in machine learning models, with applications in computer vision, image processing, and natural language processing.
