Biography

Heather Bensler joined the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary in August 2017 as an Associate Professor (Teaching). She focuses on faculty curriculum development and serves as the Director of Indigenous Initiatives. In this role, Heather is responsible for the ongoing development and sustainment of collaborative partnerships with rural Indigenous academic partners. Her research interests include Anti-Indigenous Racism, Participatory Theatre, Forum Theatre, and Nursing Education. Heather has received multiple awards recognizing her excellence in teaching, including the Students' Union Teaching Excellence Award for Nursing and the Pursuit Excellence Award for Undergraduate Teaching. Furthermore, she has been acknowledged as a Peak Scholar at the University of Calgary. She holds a Doctorate in Curriculum Learning from the University of Calgary (2022), a Master of Science in Nursing from Trinity Western University (2014), and a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Calgary (1996).
