Biography

Heather Booth is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Demography at the Australian National University (ANU) with over 40 years of experience in demographic research, particularly in developing countries. Her recent work focuses on mortality modeling and forecasts, population aging, and the socio-demography of longevity. Heather has been involved as an Associate Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence in Population Ageing Research and served on the Advanced Grants Panel of the European Research Council. She was the founding editor of the Journal Population Research from 2000 to 2006. Previously, she began her career at the London School of Economics before moving to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her doctoral research was conducted at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she developed the Booth Standard for using the Brass Relational Gompertz Model in fertility studies. She has also worked as a demographer for the South Pacific Commission in Nouméa, New Caledonia. Throughout her career, Heather has served as an international consultant for various UN funding agencies, continuing her work in demographic research at ANU since 1994.
