Biography

Heather Heavin joined the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in 2003 and previously taught on a term basis in 2001. Her research focuses primarily on international and domestic trade law, business law, and risk assessment. Heather has served as Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies and chairs the Graduate Studies Committee at the College of Law. She has also participated in various committees at the University of Saskatchewan, including the Governance Committee and the Operations Committee of the Social Science Research Laboratory. Heather has clerked for Chief Justice E.D. Bayda of the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal and practiced law at the Regina office of MLT Aikins from 1997 to 2002. She completed her LLM at Harvard in 2003, her LLB (Magna cum laude) from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996, where she was awarded the Gold Medal, and her B.Sc. (Honours) in 1992 from the University of Saskatchewan. Heather has received multiple awards for her teaching, including the LSA Teaching Award in 2007 and the Provost Teaching Award in 2014. Prior to accepting the position of Associate Dean, she held a joint appointment at the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy, teaching in the Masters of Public Administration program. In 2016, she and her colleague, Professor Michaela Keet, were awarded the Gonthier Fellowship from the Canadian Institute for Administration of Justice for their project on Litigation Risk Analysis.
