Dr. Heather Hsu

Biography

Heather E. Hsu, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. She is a pediatric hospitalist and health services researcher committed to advancing quality, efficiency, and equity in healthcare delivery across the life course. Dr. Hsu's research utilizes observational data and quasi-experimental study design to inform health policy and healthcare delivery. Her particular interests include understanding how value-based care models impact health equity and the financial well-being of healthcare safety-net systems, with a focus on infectious diseases and substance use. Additionally, she serves as the Scientific Director of Boston Medical Center's Clinical Data Warehouse Research, where she leads efforts to improve the quality and availability of administrative electronic health records data for research. Dr. Hsu completed her medical training at Harvard Medical School, followed by residency at Boston Children's Hospital and a health services research fellowship at Harvard's Department of Population Medicine. She has received research funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and has published in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA.
