Biography

Heather Jamniczky is an Associate Professor in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, where she serves as the Deputy Head of Cell Biology & Anatomy and Academic Lead for Teaching and Learning Research at the Taylor Institute. She completed her PhD in 2006 and her BSc with First Class Honours in 2001, both from the University of Calgary. Jamniczky’s research focuses on evolution and development of complex phenotypes, particularly concerning vertebrate skeletal structures. Her teaching responsibilities encompass human gross anatomy across undergraduate, medical, and graduate curricula. She collaborates on various studies involving threespine sticklebacks and explores the neural correlates of spatial learning. Her recent publications include investigations into DNA methylation in sticklebacks, mechanical and kinematic properties in vertebrates, and ecomorphological associations in lizards. She has received multiple awards for her teaching excellence and contributions to academic and medical education.
