Biography

Heather Kappes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management at the London School of Economics (LSE). She joined LSE in 2012 after earning her PhD in Social Psychology from New York University. Her research employs a behavioral science approach to marketing, focusing on the influences that drive individuals to pursue their goals. Current research interests include understanding how both adults and children think about wealth and spending, as well as beliefs that predict financial resilience. In the academic year 2020-21, Dr. Kappes served as a Fellow at the Office of Evaluation Sciences within the United States General Services Administration, where she worked on an interdisciplinary team to apply evidence-based strategies to topics such as fostering small business support and encouraging vaccination uptake. Additionally, she continues to be an Academic Affiliate at the Office of Evaluation Sciences. Dr. Kappes teaches courses on marketing and consumer behavior to undergraduate and master's students. Her expertise spans consumer finance, goal pursuit, and research methodologies within the psychology and marketing disciplines. She is also actively involved in research projects aimed at improving the reproducibility of findings in psychology, including the Reproducibility Project: Psychology.
